"For both the viewer and participant, painting offers escape from the demands and stresses of daily living. In most all my works, I try to evoke a positive mode whether it be pensive and reflective, or joyous and ebullient.'"
Robin Howe Townsend is a versatile artist alternating from the whimsical to the impressionist to the abstract. Without any formal art school training, Robin picked up art at the age of 40. Instead of relying on rulers, exacting perspective or anatomical study, she just immersed herself in "play." Her work reflects her personal joy in the process ... all energy and spontanaiety. When you meet Robin to discover she works with her fingers, tissue paper and dollar store items, you can feel her passion. Other artists tease her for her readiness to jump in, try new things and have no fear.
Robin's work? Abstract at times and expressioinist/impressioinist at others. She was first recognized for her colorful landscapes of Tuscany and Provence (ironically she has never been to either) but then moved forward into collages and abstract. With collages, she spontaneously rips and tears her own paintings to create depth and color. Her abstracts are another matter. Robin says, "my impressionist work are all fast, happy and emotive while my abtracts reflect an almost painstaking, intellectual mode."
Robin's appearance reflects her work. She is lanky, lean and dedicated. Her sweatshirts are covered in paint and her choice of simple clothes seem random. It is as if she sees not her clothing because the art process is her everything and her all.
The Robin Howe Townsend gallery boasts an on-going inventory. Choose from framed works that are exquisite in quality and elegance or a limited edition of prints from which you can customize the frame to suit your style and décor.
In any case, you will find the perfect scene or memory to enhance your surroundings, making you long to visit the scene only Townsend can create.
